The Experience

Two days means you leave Friday evening or Saturday morning and return by Sunday—a real weekend away from the plains without needing a week off. Day one is a 5-6 kilometer hike to Kathian Base Camp, where you'll pass a small temple dedicated to a Snake God before settling into a tent for the night. Sleeping bags and twin-sharing tents are provided, and dinner is included.

Day two starts from the campsite and climbs to Nag Tibba's summit at 3,020 meters. The peak opens onto views of Mt. Swargarohini, Mt. Bandarpunch and other major Himalayan ridges before you descend the same route back to Pantwari. Breakfast is provided before you start, and the whole descent takes the afternoon, getting you back to the village by evening.

The guide speaks English and Hindi and walks with the group. This is a hiking trek, not a sightseeing tour—the days are built around the climb and the camp, not around stops or a fixed itinerary of attractions. A moderate fitness level matters; the trek is not recommended for travelers with spinal injuries, poor cardiovascular health, or during pregnancy. Children from age 6 can join if they hike the full distance or are carried by an adult.

Is this one for you?Book this trek if you have a weekend free and want to climb to a real mountain peak without taking time off work—the 2-day frame and the return to your starting point mean you leave Friday evening and are back by Sunday evening. The moderate fitness requirement and the full-day hike on day two make this suited to someone who hikes regularly, not a casual stroll; if you prefer shorter days or easier terrain, look for a different trek in the region.
