The Experience

The Kanheri Caves sit within the park, carved 2,400 years ago by Buddhist monks directly out of the rocky basaltic cliffs. The name comes from the Sanskrit Krishnagiri, meaning "black mountain"—a reference to the dark stone the monks worked into.
