The experience

“You see that lion up there? He’s been watching this street longer than any of us,” our guide Anirban grinned, pointing at a stone beast perched above the old portico. I was still trying to dodge puddles from last night’s rain, but he had us all looking up, squinting in the morning glare. The city felt half-awake: hawkers setting up, someone frying something spicy nearby (I swear I could smell cardamom and diesel at the same time).
