The experience

Hawa Mahal, the Palace of Winds, is where you meet your guide, at Tattoo Cafe on the second floor opposite the landmark. From there you climb to the cafe itself for a view of the palace before the walking route begins, and you can grab local snacks while you're up there if you want. The cafe is also an option to return to at the end if you'd rather sit than walk back.

The route moves through Johari Bazaar, where jewelry shops line the streets (stone, silver and gold), and narrow lanes open onto 18th-century houses with painted frescoes at their gates. You pass the Jama Mosque, fruit and vegetable markets, and the famous local restaurant LMB. From there it's on to Bapu Bazaar, one of India's most well-known markets, stocked with textiles and more. Tripolia Bazaar follows, with its book market, utensils wholesale, and gem stones, ending at the Tripolia Gate, the main entrance to the royal palace.

Chandpole Bazaar is the final stop: known for spices, dry fruits, silver jewelry and marble work. You pause at Ishwar Lat, the tallest minaret inside the Pink City, for photos. From there you can walk back to the starting point or take a rickshaw. Bottled water and tea, coffee or soda come with the tour.
