The Experience

I didn’t expect the road from Delhi to Jaipur to feel so hypnotic—just fields and flashes of color, with our driver humming along to old Bollywood songs. When we finally rolled into Jaipur, our guide Rakesh was already waving at us with this easy smile. First stop: Amer Fort. The climb up is steeper than photos let on—my legs were grumbling—but inside, it’s all cool stone underfoot and echoes bouncing off those mirrored walls in Sheesh Mahal. Rakesh pointed out tiny details I’d have missed: faded paintings in corners, the way sunlight hit the marble courtyards just right. Outside, monkeys darted along the ramparts.
