The Experience

The tour starts before dawn: a 6:15 am pickup from your Delhi hotel takes you to New Delhi Railway Station for a 7:20 am Superfast Deluxe train departure to Amritsar. After lunch on arrival, you head straight to the Wagah border to watch the changing of the guard ceremony and flag hoisting and lowering—a ritual performed with precision by both countries' border security forces. The day ends at your hotel, either Hotel Ritz (4-star) or Ramada (5-star), depending on which option you booked.

Day two begins at 8 am with sightseeing in Amritsar itself. The Golden Temple, built by Guru Arjun Singh in the late 16th century, is the spiritual center of the Sikh faith and the first major stop. From there you visit Jallianwala Bagh, a memorial dedicated to the hundreds of martyrs of the 1919 massacre. The final temple is Durgiana, which sits in the middle of a sacred lake and draws pilgrims from across the world. After lunch, you transfer to Amritsar Railway Station for the 4:40 pm return train to Delhi, with dinner served on board; you arrive back at New Delhi Railway Station around 11:05 pm and are picked up for transfer to your hotel.
