The experience

The Baby Taj gets its name because Empress Nur Jahan built this marble tomb for her father using the same intricate inlay techniques that would later define the Taj Mahal itself. Your guide walks you through the delicate stone work (semi-precious stones set into marble in geometric and floral patterns), and explains how this mausoleum pioneered the style that made Agra's most famous monument possible. The garden setting is serene, and the crowds are a fraction of what you'll find at the main Taj.

From there, the tour moves to Mehtab Bagh, the gardens on the opposite bank of the Yamuna River. This is where you watch the Taj Mahal's reflection in the water as the light turns golden, and it's the reason the tour is timed for sunset. Mehtab Bagh stays quieter than the main monument, so you get the view without the press of visitors. The itinerary also includes a stop at Nag Devat Temple, a small riverside shrine, before your driver takes you back to your hotel.
