The tour begins with a 5am pickup from your Mumbai hotel and transfer to the airport for the flight to Delhi. Once you land, a professional guide meets you for a half-day city tour covering the 11th-century Qutub Minar, built by Qutub-ud-din Aibek when the Slave Dynasty took Delhi in 1206, and India Gate, the war memorial honoring Indian soldiers from the Afghan War. You'll also drive past government landmarks including the President's House and Parliament House from the British Raj era. By early evening you're on the expressway to Agra, roughly three hours by private air-conditioned vehicle.
Day two starts at 6am for a sunrise visit to the Taj Mahal, the UNESCO World Heritage monument closed only on Fridays. A rickshaw ride takes you to and from the site. After breakfast you tour Agra Fort, then drive to Jaipur, the "pink city" founded by Maharaja Jai Singh II in the 18th century and built according to the Shilpa-Shastra, an ancient Hindu architectural treatise. The itinerary includes an optional stop at Fatehpur Sikri, the 16th-century walled city Akbar abandoned after 14 years, which remains largely intact. Overnight accommodation is at a hotel on twin-share basis with breakfast included.
On the final day you check out at 8am and visit Amber Fort, the former capital of the Kachhwaha clan before Jaipur became the official seat in 1727, and Hawa Mahal, the five-story pink sandstone structure built in 1799. After lunch you see City Palace, the royal residence now partly a museum, and Jantar Mantar, the 18th-century stone observatory. Weather permitting, there's time to watch hand-woven silk carpets being made in Jaipur's cottage industry. In the evening you transfer back to Delhi for your onward flight. Your guide speaks English, Spanish, Italian, French and two additional languages.
