Sea Fishing from Reykjavik: Catch Cod, Halibut & More
Reel in your own catch off the Icelandic coast
A sea fishing activity from Reykjavik where you board a boat with experienced guides, fish for species like cod, halibut, haddock and pollock in Icelandic waters, and grill your catch on board before returning to land. All fishing rods, bait and protective clothing are provided; the trip runs 3 hours and includes an English-speaking guide.
The Experience
You check in at the Special Tours Ticket Office on Geirsgata in central Reykjavik, receive your boarding pass and walk to the fishing boat. Once on board, the crew hands you a fishing rod, bait and protective clothing—everything you need is there. A safety briefing and fishing instructions come as you sail out to the grounds, so by the time you reach the fishing zone you know what to do and what to expect.
The next couple of hours are yours to fish. Cod, halibut, haddock, rockfish and pollock are what you're after, and the guides are there to help you land them. They know the waters and the fish, and they'll talk you through the technique. When you hook something, you feel the weight and the fight—that's the whole point of being here instead of buying it at the market.
On the way back to shore, the crew grills your catch on board. You get to eat what you caught, still warm, before you step off the boat. The whole outing takes 3 hours from check-in to landing.
