The Experience

The first thing I remember is the smell—coffee and something sweet drifting out of a bakery as we wandered into the Jewish Quarter. Anna, my host, waved at someone behind the counter and told me she grew up just two streets over. She pointed out murals I’d have missed on my own—one had this faded blue that almost matched the sky. Our day felt less like a tour and more like tagging along with an old friend who wanted me to see her city through her eyes. At some point I forgot to check my phone for hours—which almost never happens—and I still think about that view from Buda Castle when things get noisy back home.
