The experience

You're climbing uphill from Batthyányi tér metro station when your guide (someone who was born and raised in Budapest) meets you in the park and starts walking you through the Castle District. The route winds past Matthias Church, where you'll hear about 800 years of German, Jewish and Hungarian life layered into one neighborhood, and then opens onto Fisherman's Bastion, where the guide points out the Walt Disney connection and shows you how to read the crosses on the roofs. The walking tour doesn't rush through the big names.
