Babin Beach Guadeloupe Stand-up Paddleboarding Mangrove Tunnels
Paddle through natural tunnels carved by red mangroves.
Stand-up paddleboarding at Babin Beach in Guadeloupe is a guided activity where you learn to balance and paddle on clear water while discovering the mangrove ecosystem and its marine life. The instructor teaches you to navigate narrow passages inaccessible by boat, then stops at a small cove for homemade lemonade. Children from age 4 can join on a parent's or instructor's board.

The experience
What makes this different from paddling in open water is the mangrove itself. You'll move through natural galleries formed by red mangrove drifts, sliding under plant tunnels that only a board-width passage allows. The instructor explains the mangrove's role in the ecosystem as you go: which species shelter there, how the roots work, why the water stays so clear. You start at Babin Beach, a quieter spot away from the busier parts of the coast, then paddle toward Islet Macou and into the heart of Grand Cul-de-Sac Marin.
The session runs 2.5 hours and includes the board, paddle and leash; a photo report of the day; and a stop midway for homemade lemonade in a small cove. Children under 12 ride on a parent's or instructor's board rather than their own. The guide speaks English or French, so the commentary and instruction reach you in whichever language works. You'll see the marine fauna and flora up close: the vantage point from the board is different from a boat, lower and slower, which changes what you notice.
