The experience

The boat leaves from the lagoon and heads straight to Caret Island, a sandbank where you wade into shallow water and swim without a reef or current to manage. From there the route moves into the Grand Cul De Sac Marin, the marine reserve where you snorkel a shipwreck alive with tropical fish and coral, then paddle or float to Les Ilets La Biche for the floating bar setup. This is where the tour's centerpiece happens: you eat lunch in the water, the meal homemade and built around fish rillettes, chicken colombo, creole rice and caramelized bananas, with drinks served from the wooden bar anchored beside you. Stingrays often appear during the aperitif hour.

After lunch, the boat enters the mangrove, a silent aquatic forest where the guide points out birds and explains what you're seeing. The speedboat itself is large and fitted with bimini shade at bow and stern, so sun exposure is manageable across the eight-hour day. An eight-seater paddle board comes along for group use and doubles as a dance floor if the mood turns to zouk music after the meal.

Snorkeling equipment is provided, and the tour is designed to stay clear of the usual tourist crowds. Water shoes, an anti-UV shirt and a hat are worth bringing. Bottled water and snacks are on board throughout the day.

Is this one for you?Eight hours is the full day commitment, which leaves room for a morning meal before pickup or an evening activity after return, but rules out combining this with another major excursion. The floating bar concept and the mangrove are built into the fixed route, so you get both or neither.
