The experience
The walk starts at the island's sports facilities overlooking the old Telegraph Office, then drops down to the Tarsanas of Ermoupoli: the oldest shipyard in the Cyclades, where traditional wooden shipbuilding techniques have remained alive since 1860. From there you move toward the Neorion shipyard and cross the Karnagio, a small harbor filled with maritime repair work, before the route turns uphill into the heart of Ermoupoli itself.
You walk through the central market and arrive at Miaouli Square, where you visit the public areas of the Town Hall. Next is the Apollo Theater, where you step inside to see the interior. As the walk continues uphill, you pass the neoclassical Cyclades Labor Center and the Church of Saint Nicholas, marked by its blue dome. The route ends in the Vaporia district, where you can swim in the clear water by the pier if you want to cool off after the climb.
The tour runs three hours and suits all fitness levels, though the walk does include uphill sections through the town. A live guide in English or Greek leads the group, and liability insurance is included in the booking. If you need transport to and from your hotel, that's available as an add-on at checkout.
