Dive into Dia Island's underwater world, then paddle back across clear water

Snorkel Dia Island on a six-hour catamaran trip from Heraklion, with stand-up paddleboarding, snorkeling gear and a freshly made Cretan lunch included. The boat leaves in the morning, sails for about an hour to reach the island, then anchors in crystal-clear water where you swim, snorkel the rich fauna of the Cretan coast, and try the SUP boards. After a few hours in the water, the crew serves lunch with wine, beer and fresh fruit before the return sail to Heraklion.

The experience

The catamaran Lagoon46 departs Heraklion each morning for Dia Island, a sheltered spot in the Cretan sea about an hour's sail away. The journey itself is part of the day: you relax on deck as the boat cuts across open water, and the crew briefs you on what's ahead. Once anchored in the shallows off Dia, the water is yours to move through however you want: swim out for a cool-off, strap on snorkeling gear to watch the fish and seabed life, or step onto a stand-up paddleboard and test your balance across the surface. All the equipment is there and included. No rental fees, no extra charge.

After a few hours of that, hunger sets in. The crew prepares a freshly made lunch on board: traditional Cretan pasta, fresh fruit, bottled water, soft drinks, wine and beer, all included. You eat on deck, dry off in the sun, take photos of the island, or simply float and watch the water. There's no schedule pushing you. The afternoon is built around the return sail, which leaves you time to move at your own pace.

An experienced captain and crew run the boat and handle the sailing. You show up ready to move. The trip suits anyone comfortable in water. Infants travel on an adult's lap. Bring swimwear and sunscreen, those stay your responsibility, and wear them before you board.

Is this one for you?Six hours leaves room for a morning or afternoon in Heraklion before or after, but not both. Plan the rest of your day around the full sail time. The catamaran suits swimmers and anyone curious about snorkeling. If you've never tried it, the crew is there to help, and the shallow water at Dia Island is forgiving.

Top questions

What's the underwater life like when I snorkel at Dia Island?

Dia Island sits in the Cretan north coast and is known for its rich fauna: fish, seabed life and clear visibility in shallow water. The snorkeling gear lets you explore at your own depth and pace. The crew points out where to look, but you decide how long to stay down and which areas to visit.

How much time do I actually spend in the water?

The boat reaches Dia Island after about an hour's sail, then anchors for a few hours while you swim, snorkel and paddleboard. Lunch happens on board afterward, so you're in and out of the water on your own schedule during that window, not on a timed rotation.

Is the stand-up paddleboarding included, or do I pay extra?

SUP boards are free to use with no extra charge. The crew has them ready on deck. You can try them whenever you want during the anchored time at Dia Island, or skip them and stick to snorkeling and swimming.

What does the lunch include, and is there enough for different diets?

Lunch is a freshly made traditional Cretan pasta, served with fresh fruit, bottled water, soft drinks, wine and beer. The crew prepares it on board. If you have dietary restrictions or allergies, contact the operator before booking to discuss options.

Do I need to bring my own snorkeling gear, or is it provided?

Snorkeling equipment is provided and included in the price. The crew has masks, fins and snorkels ready. You don't need to bring your own or pay a rental fee.
