The experience

Firostefani opens the tour with the blue-domed church, one of the island's most photographed landmarks, and the first clear view of the volcanic caldera. Your guide shares the history and local culture while you photograph the whitewashed buildings and the sea beyond. From there the minibus climbs to Imerovigli, known as the "balcony of the Aegean". It is the highest village on the cliffs, and the panoramic sweep of the caldera and volcanic formations spreads across the horizon in a way the lower villages cannot match.

Finikia comes next, a small village set back from the crowds where the perspective shifts: from here you look toward Oia across the northern coast instead of down into the caldera.
