Santorini E-bike Tour Highlights

  • Visit Tomato Industrial Museum
  • Explore Black Beach
  • Tour medieval Emporio Castle
  • See traditional vineyards
  • Visit Venetian Castle viewpoint
  • Discover Megalochori village

The Experience

The Tomato Industrial Museum sits on the beach at Vlychada, its chimney rising above lunar-like volcanic rock formations. The museum tells the history of the Nomikos family's tomato business and the island's heritage through the crop that made Santorini famous. From there, the e-bike carries you along the coast to Perivolos Beach, where black volcanic sand meets the Aegean—the color comes from the island's volcanic past, and the contrast between sand and water is stark enough to stop and look twice.

As you ride inland, the medieval past appears in stone. The Venetian Castle in Akrotiri village sits on the southern edge of Santorini and doubles as a viewpoint; from there you can see the Caldera itself. The route also passes through Megalochori, a village that has stood since at least the 17th century, and near low-pruned vineyards shaped like baskets to protect the grapes growing inside them. The landscape shifts constantly—from beach to village to vineyard to cliff edge—and the e-bike lets you move through it without the sealed window of a bus.

The tour ends at the Caldera, the rim of the volcano that defines Santorini. Standing there, you see the panoramic drop to the water and the volcano across it. Bottled water and snacks are included, along with a helmet and the guide's commentary on what you are passing through. The whole ride takes 3.5 hours. Hotel pickup is arranged before you book, or if you are arriving by cruise ship, the meeting point is at the cable car exit at the top of Fira.

Top questions

What is the Tomato Industrial Museum and why is it on this tour?

The Tomato Industrial Museum at Vlychada tells the story of Santorini's cherry tomatoes and the Nomikos family's production history. It sits on the beach with a distinctive chimney rising above volcanic rock, and it is included as a stop because the tomato crop shaped the island's economy and heritage.

Can I book this tour if I'm arriving on a cruise ship?

Yes. If you arrive by ship, the meeting point is at the exit of the cable car at the top of Fira, and the guide will be there to start the tour from that location.

What does Perivolos Beach look like, and why is it called a black beach?

Perivolos Beach has black sand, which is unusual and comes from Santorini's volcanic past. The black volcanic sand contrasts sharply with the blue Aegean water, and it is a stop on the route where you can see and walk on this distinctive landscape.

How does an e-bike make this tour different from a regular cycling tour?

An e-bike has electric assist, which means the pedals help you move forward without requiring the same physical effort as a regular bike. On Santorini's volcanic terrain and hills, the e-bike lets you ride longer distances and reach higher points—like the Caldera cliffs—without exhaustion.

What should I bring or prepare before the tour starts?

Apply sunscreen one hour before the tour begins. Bring comfortable clothes and closed-toe shoes for cycling. Bottled water and snacks are provided, and a helmet is included. The tour requires good weather; if conditions are poor, the operator will offer a different date or a full refund.

Is the Venetian Castle something I can explore, or do we just ride past it?

The Venetian Castle in Akrotiri village is a stop on the route where you can explore the well-maintained medieval structure. It also serves as a viewpoint from which you can see the Caldera, so it is both a historical site and a vantage point built into the ride.
