Cook four classic Rhodian dishes and eat them together at a long table.

A hands-on Greek cooking class in a traditional mountain village on Rhodes where you learn to prepare tzatziki, eggplant salad, dolmadakia and cheese pies from a local cook, then share the meal you've made with local wine and Greek coffee. The experience includes a visit to a women's agricultural cooperative, a winery tasting of seven Rhodian wines, and pickup from your hotel on selected dates.

The Experience

What does a morning in a Rhodes village kitchen actually teach you? You'll meet the local cook and the women from the agricultural cooperative who grow the ingredients you're about to use. After a walk through the village and a tasting of seven wines at a small family-run winery, you move into the kitchen. The lesson covers four dishes: tzatziki, eggplant salad, dolmadakia (grape leaves wrapped with rice and herbs), and traditional cheese pies. You work with local ingredients and learn the techniques these dishes have carried for generations—not shortcuts, not restaurant tricks, just how they're made here.

The cooking takes about an hour, then you sit down to eat what you've prepared in a communal setting. This is the meal: the salad with lettuce, nuts, apple and manouri cheese; the pies still warm; the dolmadakia; the eggplant; the tzatziki. Vegetarian variations are available if you need them. Wine pours throughout, and before you leave the village of Apollona, you'll have Greek coffee in a local café—the kind made in a small copper pot, thick and strong.

The whole experience runs four hours. Pickup is included on most dates; a few departures require you to meet the group in the village instead. Children from age 8 can join. The guide speaks English and Greek, and moves through the day at a pace that lets you actually learn the techniques rather than rush through them.

What’s included

  • Hands-on cooking class with a local instructor.
  • visit to the Apolloniatisses women's agricultural cooperative.
  • tasting of seven local Rhodian wines (18+).
  • full homemade lunch of the dishes you've prepared.

  • hotel pickup on selected dates.
  • all fees and taxes.

Is this one for you?Book this if you want to learn a skill you can actually use at home, not just watch a demonstration. The four-hour structure—cooperative visit, winery, cooking, then eating together—means you're building something real with your hands and sitting down to the result, which is different from a food tour where you taste what someone else made.

Top questions

What dishes do you actually learn to cook in the class?

You make four: tzatziki, eggplant salad, dolmadakia (grape leaves with rice and herbs), and traditional cheese pies. The cook teaches you the local techniques and you use ingredients from the cooperative's own harvest.

Is wine tasting included, and how much?

Yes—a tasting of seven local Rhodian wines at a family-run winery is part of the experience. Wine is included for guests 18 and older.

Do you eat what you cook, or is it just a lesson?

You eat it. After the cooking class, you share a full homemade lunch of the dishes you've made together, served communally with the salad, cheese and Greek coffee at the end.

Is hotel pickup included?

Pickup is included on most dates; some departures ask you to meet the group directly in the village of Apollona instead. Check your selected date when booking.

Can children join the cooking class?

Children from age 8 are welcome. Infants and small children can come along in a pram or stroller if needed.

What is the women's agricultural cooperative, and why do you visit it?

The Apolloniatisses is a local cooperative of women who grow and produce traditional Rhodian ingredients—the vegetables, herbs and other foods you'll use in the cooking class. You meet them and learn how they preserve time-honored recipes and farming methods.
