The Experience

Eight hours is the full-day option at Kalithea; the half-day program at Kolymbia or Pefkos runs shorter. Either way, the day starts with a simple theory lesson on the beach—nothing complicated, just what you need to know to stay safe and comfortable underwater. After that, you're in the water with an instructor from the international team, gliding through the Aegean at whatever pace feels right. The water is clear enough that you'll see what's down there without strain.

Hotel pickup and drop-off are included, so you don't arrange transport yourself. All scuba equipment comes with you—tank, wetsuit, mask, fins, the works. During your first dive you'll be photographed; at Kalithea, you're also filmed so you can buy a DVD of the dive itself. Those images are optional purchases, but most people want proof they actually did this.

The program is open to anyone 8 and up (children need an adult with them), and the instructors say almost anyone can do it. A medical questionnaire gets reviewed by a doctor before you dive—this is standard safety, not a barrier for most people. One thing to know: you need to wait 18 hours after diving before flying, so plan accordingly if your flight home is the same day.
