- Travel through Chania villages
- Walk easy path in Imbros Gorge
- Pass stone arch inside gorge
- Reach Komitades village road
- See fortress architecture
- Swim at sandy beach
The experience
You start from your accommodation or cruise terminal and drive through the villages of mainland Chania to reach Imbros village, where the gorge entrance sits just below. The path descends gently from there, never steep, and the stony ground is manageable in running shoes if you watch your footing. The gorge narrows to under two meters wide at one point, and the trees overhead keep you in shade most of the way down.
Around two hours into the walk you'll pass a striking stone arch on your right, then the gorge opens up and the path meets the road at Komitades village. Your guide and driver wait there to either continue the tour or return you to where you started. Trekking poles are provided, and you'll have water, juice and a cold snack to refuel along the route.
The whole outing runs five to seven hours door-to-door, which leaves room for a swim or a meal elsewhere in your day if the gorge is your morning. The path is suitable for families with young children and requires no special fitness level, though the stony surface means you need to pay attention to each step.

Is this one for you?The five- to seven-hour duration includes the drive, the walk and the return, so a half-day itinerary works only if the gorge is your main stop. If you want to combine it with a swim, a meal or another site in Chania, plan for this to take most of your day.

Top questions
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.
How narrow does Imbros Gorge actually get?
At its narrowest point the gorge is under two meters wide, with rock walls close enough on both sides that you're walking through a genuine ravine rather than a wide valley.
What's the stone arch everyone mentions on this hike?
An impressive natural stone arch appears on your right after about two hours of walking. It's one of the standout features of the route and a popular spot for photos.
Will I be in the sun the whole time?
No. Because the gorge is narrow and lined with trees, you have shade for most of the walk, which makes the stony path easier to manage even on a warm day.
What happens when I reach Komitades at the end?
Komitades is a village at the gorge's exit where your guide and driver are waiting. You can return to your starting point or continue with the rest of your tour depending on what you've booked.
Do I need hiking boots or special gear for this walk?
Running shoes work fine because the path is never steep, though the ground is stony so you need to watch your footing. Trekking poles are provided, and water and a snack are included.
