The experience
The tour starts with pickup from your hotel and heads inland to Sangri, where the restored Temple of Demeter stands alongside a museum of local finds. From there you move to Damalas, nearly at the island's center, to watch potters at work and see an olive mill still in operation: both places where the island's traditional crafts have not stopped. The route then climbs to Halki, a village built around the kitron distillery that has been making the local citrus liqueur since 1896. You can taste and buy there if you choose.
The final stop is Apeiranthos, the marble village, where you have the choice to tour the archaeological museum, visit the folklore museum, or simply walk the narrow alleys for photographs. The guide leads the stops but leaves room for your own pace at each one. Air-conditioned transport and bottled water are included throughout, and WiFi on board means you can stay connected between villages.
