The experience

The tour starts with pickup from your hotel and heads to Damalas Village, where a generations-old pottery workshop shows how local clay work has been done for decades. From there you move to Chalki Village for a walk through the settlement and a visit to the family-owned distillery that still produces Naxos' well-known Kitron liqueur. A spirit the island has made for over a hundred years. The stops are spaced so you have time to look around and ask questions without feeling rushed.

Next is an olive oil press where you watch how the oil was once prepared by hand and get to taste the finished products. The final stop is Filoti, the largest settlement on the island, built amphitheatrically on the foothills of Mount Zeus. An old plane tree spreads across the main square, offering shade while you explore the 18th-century Panagia Filotitissa church with its three-bell tower and carved details. The Ecclesiastic and Folklore Museum of Filoti sits in front of the church and displays how a traditional house was arranged, along with relics and icons from the church itself.

Your guide is a Greek speaker fluent in English who knows the island's history and will answer questions as you go.
