The downhill return is straight enough to let you taste your way back through neighborhood bakeries and grocery stores.

A private cycling tour of Nafplio that combines sightseeing, a visit to a post-Byzantine monastery, and three tasting stops at local shops and restaurants. You ride beneath the walls of Acronafplia, see the Venetian castles Palamidi and Bourtzi, pass through olive groves with views of the Argolic Gulf, then descend through neighborhoods where you stop to eat and talk with locals. The tour runs about 4 hours and includes bike rental, helmet, a private English-speaking guide, and a traditional snack.

The experience

You start at your hotel or Philelinon square in the port and ride out to see the main attractions of Nafplio: the old town's layout, the fortifications above it. The route takes you beneath the walls of Acronafplia and opens to panoramic views of the two Venetian castles, Palamidi and Bourtzi, that sit in the harbor and on the headland. Before fatigue sets in, you climb through olive groves toward the post-Byzantine monastery, where the views of Nafplio and the Argolic Gulf spread out below.

The return is downhill and straight, which is when the tasting part begins. You stop at three local spots (mini markets, bakeries, restaurants, grocery stores tucked into neighborhoods), where you eat what locals eat and talk to the people who run them. A private guide who speaks English, German or Dutch leads the whole ride and knows which places to hit. The tour suits families and anyone at any fitness level. Even if you decide mid-ride you'd rather not be guided, you can rent a bike on its own.

Bikes are maintained after every ride by a bike expert on the team, and a partner is always on standby nearby in case of emergency. E-bikes are available in limited numbers if you want pedal assistance. The meeting time is flexible. You pick the hour that works for your schedule.
