The experience

The cruise splits into two parts. First, you sail along Mount Athos's coastline and listen to the guided tour explain the history of the six monasteries you pass. The boat does not dock at the monasteries themselves, but the water route gives you the full view of them. The commentary comes through in your choice of language: English, Italian, French, German, or five others. This part takes up the first hours of the day.

Then the boat stops at Ammouliani Island for an hour and a half. The exact landing spot depends on the season: May and October use the central port, while summer months shift to the Alikes lagoon, where you can swim in the water or walk to the lagoon's restaurant for lunch. Either way, you step off the boat and decide what the stop means for you: some travelers swim, others eat, some do both.

The whole day runs five hours. The boat is glassed-bottomed and designed for families. You can bring a pram or stroller, and service animals travel with you. No special fitness is needed, and the sea conditions are what make the route safe and comfortable enough for small children to ride the whole way.
