The experience
How do you get to a shipwreck without diving? You paddle there. This kayak starts at a protected sea gulf where the water stays calm enough for beginners, which means you spend the afternoon actually paddling instead of fighting the swell. The route takes you first to the Manassa Rose, a wreck sitting in the middle of Kissamos Bay, then inland to the metal mine ruins from 1905: a structure most visitors to Crete never see because it sits on a cliff face with no road access. Distant small chapels dot the coastline as you go, and the rocky formations alone are worth the paddle.
After the mine ruins, you reach a small private beach that has no land approach. The only way in is by sea. This is where you leave the kayak, swim, and snorkel the underwater formations. Then comes the sea cave of Ravdoucha, which you explore on water before paddling back to the starting point as the light changes. The whole outing runs about five and a half hours, timed so you finish in the sunset. You get snorkeling gear, energy bars, juice and bottled water. The kayaks and safety equipment are provided and fitted before you start.

Is this one for you?The tour meets and starts at a fixed point in West Crete, so if you're staying elsewhere or don't have a car, you'll need to arrange your own transport to the starting location. Once you're there, everything else (the kayak, the route, the stops), is handled, and you paddle back to the same place by sunset.

Top questions
What languages is the tour guided in?
Live guide in English and Greek.
Can children come?
Yes. Ticket types: Youth (16 to 17 years). Children under 16 can't be included in the booking.
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.
What's the Manassa Rose and why is it worth paddling out to see it?
The Manassa Rose is a shipwreck resting in the middle of Kissamos Bay. You paddle directly to it as the first stop on the route, making it the centerpiece of the afternoon. A real wreck you can circle and study from the water instead of reading about in a museum.
Do I need to know how to kayak before I book this?
No. The tour is beginner-friendly and no kayaking experience is required. You meet at the starting point, get fitted with safety equipment, and receive instructions on how to kayak before you paddle out.
Can I actually snorkel during the stop, or is it just a swim break?
You snorkel. The private beach stop includes time to explore the underwater formations with snorkeling gear, which is provided as part of the outing.
What happens if the weather turns bad or the sunset doesn't show up?
The route stays inside a protected sea gulf, which keeps the paddling smooth even when conditions are less than perfect. The timing is set to return at sunset, but the paddle itself doesn't depend on clear skies.
Is there a minimum fitness level, or can anyone do this?
You should have at least a moderate level of physical fitness. The outing runs five and a half hours on the water, so stamina matters. Travelers with spinal injuries, poor cardiovascular health, or who are pregnant are not recommended for this activity.
