The experience
The tour meets at the Key Tours office and heads straight to the south slope of the Acropolis, where you start at the Theatre of Dionysus before climbing the hill itself. By arriving early, you get the Acropolis site when it's still cool and the light is sharp: the Parthenon, Erechtheion, Propylaea, Temple of Athena Nike and Pedestal of Agrippa are all yours to photograph without waiting in line or standing shoulder-to-shoulder. Your guide brings the history of each structure to life as you move through them.
After the Acropolis, you descend into Plaka, the old town that most visitors miss or rush through. Here the tour slows down. You walk the little alleys of Anafiotika, the topmost neighborhood, where whitewashed mansions with carved wooden doors and colorful shutters line streets so narrow that the city noise falls away. Your guide points out the hidden corners and views that even many Athenians don't know. You pass the Bathhouse of the Winds, a Turkish-era public bath from 1453–1669 that still stands near the Roman Forum, then walk by Hadrian's Library and the Fethiye Mosque Museum on your way to Monastiraki Square, the oldest surviving square in the city.
The tour runs 3.5 hours total. You'll need moderate fitness for the Acropolis climb, especially in summer when the ascent is steep and demanding. Audio devices keep everyone hearing the guide clearly even in the open air. At the end, you're free to explore the Monastiraki flea market, grab lunch at one of the little shops, or simply wander on your own.

Top questions
What languages is the tour guided in?
In English, at 08:45 and 14:30. In Spanish, at 08:30, 09:30 and 14:30.
Can children come?
Yes. Ticket types: Child (4 to 12 years); Infant (under 4): free.
What's the difference between the tour with tickets and without?
The tour operates with or without Acropolis entrance fees included. If you choose the option without tickets, you'll purchase them separately before the tour departs at the time slot your group is assigned. Either way, you enter the Acropolis with your guide and small group.
Is the Acropolis climb as hard as people say?
The ascent is steep and the operator rates it as moderate difficulty requiring intense physical effort, especially during summer heat. If you have mobility concerns or find steep hills challenging, this tour may not suit you. The cobblestone streets of Plaka are easier walking, but the Acropolis itself is the centerpiece.
Why does this tour start so early?
Early morning access means you reach the Acropolis before the midday crowds and heat arrive. By the time tour groups and day-trippers flood the site in late morning, you've already photographed the Parthenon and moved on to the quieter streets of Plaka.
What's included in the tour price?
Your price covers the licensed guide, audio devices so you hear clearly throughout, small group experience, and guided access to the Acropolis and Plaka. Entrance fees to the Acropolis are included only if you select that option at checkout. Otherwise you buy them separately before departure.
Can I get to the meeting point by public transport?
Yes, public transportation options are available near the Key Tours office where the tour starts. You'll need to arrange your own way there. Hotel pickup is not included with this tour.
