Step-by-step itinerary
Dog walk and Greek cooking experience
- Visit Skiathos dog shelter
- Walk dogs through hills
- Meet Maria at her house
- Learn to cook traditional dishes
- Enjoy lunch with local wine
The experience
The day starts at the Evangelistria Dog Shelter, set in the quiet hills outside town on land donated by the local monastery. You'll meet one of the rescue dogs waiting there and set out on a walk with an experienced hiking guide through the surrounding landscape. The shelter sits high enough to catch cool winds and privacy, the reason the volunteers chose it, and the walk lets you see why the dogs thrive in that setting while you move through the terrain at an easy pace.
After the hike, you head to Maria's house, where a local cook teaches you how to make traditional Greek dishes from scratch. You're not watching a demonstration. You're working in her kitchen, learning the techniques and the ingredients that go into the food people eat here. When the cooking is done, you sit down together to eat what you've made, with local wine, water and soft drinks served alongside. The meal happens in a quiet setting, and the whole second half of the day centers on that one house and that one table.

How long does the dog walk take, and what's the shelter like?
The hike lasts part of the morning and moves at an easy pace through the Skiathos hills. The Evangelistria Dog Shelter sits on monastery land outside town, chosen because it's quiet and cool even in summer heat: a safe place for the rescue dogs to live while they wait for adoption.
Will I actually cook, or just watch someone else do it?
You cook the dishes yourself in Maria's kitchen. She teaches you the traditional Greek recipes step by step, and then you all eat the food you've prepared together at her table.
What's included in the price?
The class includes the guide for both the hike and the cooking instruction, pickup and drop-off from your hotel, lunch with wine and drinks, and the dog walk itself.
Is this suitable if I'm not very fit?
The experience is suitable for all physical fitness levels. The hike moves at an easy pace through the hills, and the cooking class is hands-on but not strenuous.
