The experience
Nine to ten hours takes you through two of Greece's most significant archaeological sites. The tour begins at Thermopylae, the narrow mountain pass where the Spartans held off a vastly larger Persian force for three days. You'll see the Leonidas Monument and walk the battlefield itself, then visit the volcanic hot springs nearby: waters the ancient Greeks believed led to the Underworld, and where Heracles supposedly washed away the poison from his battle with the Hydra. The landscape and the monument frame the scale of what happened there in 480 BC.
Delphi comes next, the site ancient Greeks considered the center of the world. The Temple of Apollo stands at the heart of the sanctuary, built around the spot where the Pythia delivered her prophecies to pilgrims who traveled from across the known world seeking her counsel. You'll also see the Tholos of Athena Pronaia, the ancient theatre carved into the mountainside with views over the sanctuary, and the Stadium of Delphi perched at the highest point of the archaeological zone. The Delphi Archaeological Museum holds fourteen rooms of artifacts (the Charioteer of Delphi, the Sphinx of Naxos, and the frieze of the Siphnian Treasury among them) each one a window into the religious and artistic life that made Delphi matter.
A sedan vehicle with air conditioning carries groups of up to four people, with hotel pickup and drop-off included. Your driver speaks English and carries historical knowledge of both sites, though entry to the archaeological zones and the museum are separate purchases. Wear comfortable shoes for the walking and uneven ground. The Greek sun is strong, so bring a hat and sunscreen.

Top questions
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.
What happened at Thermopylae and why does it matter?
In 480 BC, King Leonidas led about 300 Spartan soldiers in a three-day stand against the invading Persian army at this narrow mountain pass. The Spartans held the position despite being vastly outnumbered, exemplifying a sacrifice that became legendary in Greek culture and shaped how the ancient world understood courage.
What was the oracle at Delphi and where did she deliver her prophecies?
The Pythia was the oracle who lived at the Temple of Apollo in Delphi and delivered prophecies to pilgrims from across the ancient world. The temple was built around the temenos, the sacred chamber where she sat, and people traveled vast distances to seek her counsel on matters of fate and fortune.
What can I see inside the Delphi Archaeological Museum?
The museum holds fourteen rooms of artifacts from the sanctuary, including the Charioteer of Delphi, a bronze statue of exceptional craftsmanship; the Sphinx of Naxos; and the frieze of the Siphnian Treasury, which decorated one of the most important treasuries at the site.
How much walking is involved across both sites?
Both Thermopylae and Delphi involve walking over uneven ancient ground and uphill terrain. The tour is suitable for all fitness levels, but comfortable shoes are essential, and the sites sit in open sun with limited shade.
