The experience

Five to seven hours on the water means you leave the harbor as the light starts to turn, sail past the Koules Fortress: the Venetian fort built in the 16th century, its white marble emblem of St. Mark's lion visible from the deck, and follow the coast toward Zeus Island. The crew hoists the sails as you depart, and the evening breeze carries you into open water. You'll have a sun-protected cockpit to sit in, and snorkeling equipment is on board if the water calls to you.

As the sun sinks lower, the boat glides into a secluded, naturally sheltered bay where the crew moors for the night. This is where the day shifts. The table is set on deck with the sea as your backdrop, and the crew brings out Cretan wine, local white wine for adults, and gourmet Cretan cheese and finger food. The Koules Fortress, also called Rocca a Mare or Castello del Molo, is a 16th-century Venetian fort built to guard Heraklion harbor. It sits at the entrance to the old port, so you pass it as you leave the harbor at the start of the sail. The white marble lion of St. Mark carved into its walls is visible from the deck.

Can we swim or snorkel during the sunset sail?

Snorkeling equipment is included on the yacht, and you're moored in a secluded bay where the water is calm. Whether you enter the water depends on conditions and your comfort. The crew can advise once you're anchored.
