Create a full Cretan meal from scratch, then share it with new friends over wine.

A hands-on cooking class in Crete where you make a traditional Cretan menu (starters, a slow-roasted lamb main, and dessert), then share the meal with other participants over wine. The class runs four hours with a live English-speaking guide. Children from age 5 join in age-appropriate tasks, and vegan and vegetarian versions are available for every dish.

The experience

You arrive with a free afternoon and no plans to fill it. This class starts you at the kitchen, not a table. You'll make kalitsounia (spinach and cheese pies), ntakos (barley rusks with tomato and local cheese), and a Cretan salad from scratch, then move to the main: lamb slow-cooked in the oven with potatoes, tomato, oregano and olive oil. The guide walks you through each step in English, and you handle the prep and cooking yourself: no watching a demonstration from a stool.

Once the food is ready, you sit down with the other people in the class and eat what you made. A bottle of red or white wine comes with the meal for every four guests. Dessert arrives after: sfakiani pie with thyme and honey, plus fresh seasonal fruit. If you eat vegan or vegetarian, the kitchen adapts every dish to match. Children from five years old take part in tasks suited to their age: no knife work, but real cooking that leaves them with something they built.

The whole experience runs four hours. Wheelchair access is available, and public transport stops nearby if you're not driving. Infants sit on an adult's lap during the meal.
