The experience
The tour starts at the Acropolis and works downhill through neighborhoods most tourists skip. You stand at the Areopagus, one of the most beautiful viewpoints in the world, with the entire city of Athens at your feet and the Temple of Athena above you. From there the route drops into Anafiotika, the most folkloristic neighborhood in Athens, situated just downhill from the Acropolis: a tangle of narrow lanes and whitewashed houses that feels separate from the city around it. Your guide is an Athenian, someone who knows which paths matter and which stories stick.
The walk crosses the Ancient Agora, where you see the Tower of Winds, then moves through Monastiraki and its flea market before reaching the Metropolitan Cathedral and Syntagma Square. At Syntagma you witness the Changing of the Presidential Guard, one of the oldest traditions in Greece. The National Gardens and the Athens Presidential Mansion come next, followed by the Olympic Stadium: the Kallimarmaron, the biggest stadium in the world constructed exclusively by marble. The tour ends at the Temple of Olympian Zeus, the biggest temple in ancient Greece, and the Arch of Hadrian.
A Greek coffee or other traditional refreshment is included, and the pace suits all fitness levels. The guide speaks English and moves at a speed that lets you absorb each stop instead of rushing between them.
