The driver knows where to stop and when (at Parliament and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, past the Academy of Athens, through the Orthodox Church district), but you're in control of the pace. If a ruin catches your eye or a street corner looks worth a photograph, you ask and the tuk tuk pulls over.

Mount Lycabettus sits 300 meters above the city, and the tour includes a short stop at the base so you can walk the final 5 minutes to the summit for a panoramic view of Athens spread below. The Olympic Stadium comes next (the only stadium in the world built entirely from marble) followed by the Temple of Olympian Zeus and Hadrian's Arch, both visible from the tuk tuk as you pass. The ruins are impressive enough to photograph from the vehicle, or you can ask the driver to stop for a closer look.

Plaka is the old town, a neighborhood of narrow, labyrinthine streets clustered around the Acropolis's slopes, full of neoclassical buildings and taverns. The tuk tuk winds through it slowly enough that you see the detail (Anafiotika's character, the way the streets connect), and inside Plaka you pass Hadrian's Library, the Roman Agora and the Tower of Winds.
