The experience
The tour starts at Marienplatz, where the New Town Hall's neo-gothic brick facade rises 100 meters above the square. Built between 1867 and 1874, it still houses the city administration and mayor's office. You can climb the tower for views across Munich's roofs or visit the traditional 1867 restaurant in the vault. From there, the route moves through the city's layers: Nymphenburg Palace, the summer residence of Bavarian monarchs since 1664, shows the scale of the Wittelsbach dynasty's five generations of rule. The Residenz, begun in 1385 and rebuilt after WWII demolition, held Gestapo headquarters and marks where Hitler joined the Nazi Party: the palace's reconstruction from 1945 onward is now the largest museum in Bavaria.
Odeonsplatz, an Italian-style square near the Residenz, is where the Beer Hall Putsch ended in 1923 when Bavarian police blocked the Nazi march. The square sits ringed by the Feldherrenhalle, the Baroque Theatine Church and Munich's oldest café. St. Peter's Church, the city's oldest parish church from the 11th century, stands near Marienplatz with its 91-meter tower locals call "Old Peter". It was rebuilt in 1327 and has witnessed the city's dramatic history ever since. Because this is a private tour, you choose which sights to visit and how long to spend at each one. Your guide offers advice on what to see and where to go next.
Hotel pickup is included, and you pick the start time that fits your day. The tour runs two hours and covers ground on foot, so comfortable shoes matter. You can photograph anywhere without limits, and your guide speaks English or German depending on your preference.

What is the New Town Hall at Marienplatz actually used for?
The New Town Hall, built between 1867 and 1874, still houses Munich's city administration, city council and the mayor's office. The 100-meter facade is neo-gothic brick and shell limestone, and you can climb the tower for views of the city's roofs or visit a traditional 1867 restaurant in the vault below.
Why does the Residenz matter for understanding Munich's WWII history?
The Residenz housed Gestapo headquarters and is where Hitler joined the Nazi Party. Mostly demolished during WWII, it was gradually reconstructed from 1945 onward and is now the largest museum in Bavaria, so its walls hold both royal and Nazi-era history.

The itinerary is customizable. You pick the sights you want to see before or during the tour. The standard route includes Marienplatz, Nymphenburg Palace, the Residenz, Odeonsplatz and St. Peter's Church, but your guide can adjust based on your interests.
What time does the tour start and how do I get picked up?
You choose the start time that works for you. Hotel pickup is included. Your guide meets you in your hotel lobby and the tour lasts two hours from there.
Is St. Peter's Church really the oldest church in Munich?
St. Peter's Church is Munich's oldest parish church, built in the 11th century. Its 91-meter tower is nicknamed "Old Peter" by locals. It was rebuilt in 1327 and stands in the city center near Marienplatz, having witnessed many dramatic moments in the city's history.
