From Meersburg, you board a passenger ferry for the cruise across Lake Constance to the Island of Mainau. The boat ride itself is part of the experience. You're on the water with views back toward the Meersburg shoreline and across the lake. Once on Mainau, you have time to walk through the island's 45 hectares of landscaped gardens, which change with the seasons. The rose terraces, Mediterranean-style plantings and water features are laid out for self-guided exploration, and the famous butterfly house sits within the gardens if you want to spend time there. Dining and shopping are available on the island, though these are at your own cost.
