The experience
The Hofgarten opens the tour at a leisurely pace, cycling through parks with views toward the city center before you head toward the Rhine promenade. From there, the route follows the water past monuments, breweries and art museums toward the Old Town, where the town hall's architecture and history anchor a longer stop. The Old Town itself (famous for its "longest bar in the world" packed into historic alleyways) is where you learn about the city's eventful past among traditional buildings.
After the Old Town, the tour crosses to the right bank of the Rhine and heads to Oberkassel, where the promenade offers views back across the modern skyline and the old town. The Rheinknie Bridge brings you back, and then you arrive at MedienHafen, where Gehry's distinctive buildings represent Düsseldorf's forward-looking character. A break at Carlsplatz market (with regional food, cafés and terraces) sits in the middle of this stretch, giving you a chance to rest before cycling on.
The final leg takes you along Königsallee, passing exclusive shops and the modern Kö-Bogen, then through Little Tokyo, where Germany's largest Japanese community fills the neighborhood with authentic restaurants and cultural spaces. The whole route is built around cycling at a manageable pace, not racing, so the three hours includes both movement and time to absorb each stop.
