You steer the boat yourself down a gentle river.

A three-hour canoe activity on the Iller River in the Allgäu where you paddle and control your own small tube canoe in groups of two to four, with a certified guide, safety equipment and neoprene gear included. The river is gentle enough for all fitness levels, and the guide teaches paddle technique before you launch. Children from age 12 are welcome.

The experience

The Iller is a gentle river that doesn't demand experience. Instead of sitting in a large raft while a guide steers, you and two or three others control your own small, agile tube canoe. The guide chooses the best route and boat setup for the group, then teaches you the paddle techniques you need before you push off. Once on the water, the river gives you choices: steer through the current, jump in and drift, or simply float and watch the Allgäu and Lechtal Alps pass by.

The three-hour paddle mixes action with moments to stop and swim. A certified guide stays with the group throughout, and you get neoprene equipment and a full safety kit. The boat handles well enough that steering feels natural, not like work, so the focus stays on the landscape and the water itself rather than on technique or fear.

What’s included

What's the Iller River like for someone who's never paddled before?

The Iller is a gentle river designed for paddlers of all experience levels. Your guide teaches paddle technique before launch and stays with the group the whole time, so you learn as you go. The small tube canoes are agile and responsive, which makes steering feel manageable even on a first paddle.

What happens if I fall in the water?

Falling in is part of the experience. The river is gentle, you're wearing neoprene and a safety kit, and the guide is there. Many paddlers jump in deliberately to swim and drift with the current, so getting wet is expected and safe.

How long does the whole activity take?

The paddle itself is three hours on the water. Plan to arrive early for the guide's introduction to paddle technique and equipment fitting, so allow extra time before and after for changing.

What do I need to bring or wear?

Neoprene equipment and a safety kit are provided. Wear clothes that can get wet, or bring a second pair of shoes since your feet will be in water. The guide will fit you with everything else you need before launch.
