Berlin evening cruise: Oberbaum Bridge & Island sunset
The ship runs silent now—electric propulsion replaced the engine almost a century after it was built.
An evening cruise on Berlin's oldest steamship, now electric, gliding past the Oberbaum Bridge, East Side Gallery, and Island of Youth as the sun sets over the city. The 2.5-hour route includes open-air deck seating and wood-panelled salons; Kaiser beer, long drinks and food are available for purchase on board. An audio guide in English, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian and seven other languages narrates the journey.

The Experience
The boat leaves from central Berlin and heads east through Kreuzberg, passing the Berlin Cathedral and Mühlendamm Lock before reaching the Oberbaum Bridge—one of the city's most recognizable landmarks. The route continues past Kater Blau and the East Side Gallery, where a surviving section of the Berlin Wall still stands painted with murals. You can move between the open-air deck and the wood-panelled salons depending on the weather and how you want to spend the evening.
The cruise turns at the Island of Youth near Treptower Park, where houseboats cluster in Rummelsburg Bay and Haus Zenner sits on the water's edge. On the return journey, the boat heads back toward the city center, passing the illuminated restaurants and bars along Schiffbauerdamm and the government district as daylight fades. The ship's electric propulsion means no engine noise—just the water and the city sliding past.
Kaiser beer, long drinks and food are sold on board: Bockwurst from a Bio-Neuland butcher, fish sandwiches, and a vegan Bockwurst alternative from the Vegane Fleischerei. Umbrellas and blankets are provided, and restrooms are on board. The audio guide switches between English, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian and seven more languages, so you can follow the route in your own language without a separate guide.
What’s included
- Use of umbrellas and blankets.
- restroom access on board.
- audio guide in your choice of English, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian or seven additional languages.

What's the oldest part of this ship?
The steamship is almost 140 years old, but it now runs on electric propulsion instead of its original engine—the hull and structure are the historic pieces you're sailing on.
Do we stop at the Island of Youth or just pass it?
The boat reaches the Island of Youth near Treptower Park and turns around there; it's the furthest point on the route before heading back toward central Berlin.
Is food and beer included in the ticket?
Food and drinks are not included in the ticket price, but Kaiser beer, long drinks, Bockwurst, fish sandwiches and vegan options are available for purchase on board.
Can I sit outside the whole time?
You can move between the spacious open-air deck and the wood-panelled salons, so you choose where to spend each part of the 2.5-hour cruise depending on weather and preference.
What happens on the way back to the city?
The return journey passes the illuminated restaurants and bars along Schiffbauerdamm and the government district as the sun sets, giving you a different view of Berlin than the outbound route.
Is there a guide on board?
An audio guide in English, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian and seven other languages narrates the route; you follow it at your own pace rather than listening to a live guide.
