The experience
The tour starts with Jvari Monastery, a 6th-century church built on a hilltop where St. Nino erected a wooden cross in the 4th century. From there you travel to Ananuri Castle Complex, a medieval site with two churches, several towers and defensive walls overlooking the Jinvali reservoir. The drive continues through Gudauri, where the road opens onto panorama views across the Caucasus Mountains before heading toward Kazbegi town.
At Kazbegi, you have two options for reaching Gergeti Trinity Church: a 4x4 drive to the church itself, or an optional 10-kilometer hike if you prefer to walk. The church was built in the 14th century and sits at 2,200 meters on the mountainside, with its bell tower constructed several years later. The location puts you directly below Mt. Kazbegi's summit and above the town of Stepantsminda. After this, the tour includes Gveleti waterfalls in Dariali Gorge, near the Russian border, before the drive back to Tbilisi in the evening.
A professional guide travels with you throughout the day, speaking English or Russian depending on the option you choose. The private vehicle and 4x4 transport are included, and pickup from your Tbilisi location is part of the booking. The tour runs 12 hours total, so plan for a full day away from the city.
