The experience

I didn’t expect the smell to hit me first: sweet, earthy vanilla drifting across the air as we stepped off the outrigger canoe onto Taha’a. Our guide, Manu, grinned and handed me a slice of pineapple (sticky fingers for the rest of the morning, but worth it). The boat itself felt almost too comfortable for an “adventure”: big trampoline nets where you could sprawl out and watch the lagoon slide by.
