The experience

The day starts with an 8:20 pickup from your Rangiroa accommodation and a 40-minute boat ride to the Blue Lagoon. At 10:00 you arrive at the shark nursery (a shallow, protected area where blacktip reef sharks gather), and enter the water with mask and snorkel to watch them move through the lagoon. The sharks here are accustomed to visitors and pose no threat. The real draw is seeing them in their natural behavior at close range in water so clear you can track every movement.

After the nursery snorkel, you visit the motu (small islands) surrounding the lagoon, swim in the shallows and take a snack break. Lunch runs from 12:15 to 1:15 with an aperitif, then you have free time to relax, swim or simply float in water that shifts between pale turquoise and deep blue depending on the sand and depth beneath you. At 2:15 the boat leaves the motu and heads back toward Avatoru, stopping at 4:45 for a second snorkel in Avatoru passage, where the current and deeper water bring different marine life. You arrive back at the marina by 4:30 and transfer to your accommodation by late afternoon.
