The experience
You arrive at the boat and head out into the Raiatea and Taha'a lagoons, where the crew picks the snorkeling spots on the day itself, not from a fixed itinerary. The pace alternates between time in the water observing corals, fish and the lagoon floor, and time back on the boat sailing past the islands. Masks, snorkels and fins are provided. The crew stays attentive and keeps the group small enough that everyone can move at their own speed and ask questions without feeling rushed.
When the group reaches the minimum size, a marine biologist comes along and talks through what you're seeing underwater: the corals, the species, how the ecosystem works. On board, drinks and a local snack made from fresh fruit are available throughout. The whole outing runs about three hours, which leaves the rest of your day free if you're stopping during a cruise or have other plans in Raiatea.
The boat is new and comfortable, and the crew is trained to keep the experience safe and relaxed. If you're arriving on a cruise ship, the operator can adjust the schedule to fit your liner's arrival and departure times: worth contacting them about when you book.
