The experience
The boat leaves early and makes four distinct stops, each one built around a different marine encounter. First is the sandbar where stingrays and blacktip sharks gather in shallow water. You enter the water with your guide to observe them up close. The second stop moves to the outer reef drop-off, where the water deepens and you swim in open water alongside blacktip sharks and possibly lemon sharks. The third takes you to the south coast to watch spinner dolphins resting in the calm lagoon: observation only, no swimming. The fourth brings you to the sea turtle zone, where you snorkel in the lagoon and may also spot leopard rays.
Your guide is a native of Moorea and speaks English or French, so the commentary and safety briefing are clear. Snorkeling equipment is provided and fitted before you leave the boat. Between stops, the crew serves fresh fruit, water, juice and punch on board. The group stays small, no more than six people, which means the guide can watch everyone and adjust the pace if someone needs help with the gear or wants to stay longer at a site.
Lunch happens at a beachfront restaurant with a view back across the lagoon. You choose your main course (grilled meat or raw fish), get a dessert and a drink included (beer, punch, juice or water). The restaurant location depends on the day (either Coco Beach or Toahere Beach House), but both sit right on the water.

Stingrays and blacktip sharks gather at the sandbar stop in shallow water where you can approach them closely. The outer reef drop-off brings you face-to-face with blacktip sharks and occasionally lemon sharks in deeper open water. Spinner dolphins rest in the calm lagoon on the south coast, though you observe them from the boat rather than swimming with them. Sea turtles and leopard rays appear in the final snorkeling zone.
