The experience

You meet the crew at the nautical center or at your hotel between 7:15 and 7:45 a.m., depending on where you're staying. They hand over snorkeling equipment, run through a briefing on how to use the sea scooters, and then the boat is yours. Because it's a private charter, you're not following a fixed route or a set schedule: the guide adjusts the day to what your group wants to do, whether that's an introduction to snorkeling, a focused hunt for marine life at Nuareii Bay, or a mix of beaches and water time.

Sea scooters let you cover more ground underwater without the effort of finning hard. You hold on and the scooter does the work. The guide stays with you to point out turtles, sharks, rays and other reef life, and to make sure everyone stays safe and comfortable. If someone in your group is new to snorkeling, the guide can slow things down. If you want to chase dolphins during the season or visit a particular beach, that's the plan for the day.

The whole outing runs two to three hours from start to finish. Light refreshments come along, and the crew handles the return to your hotel. Because the maximum is six people, you're never competing with a crowd for the guide's attention or for space on the boat.
