The experience

Thirty minutes of flight time is the core of this activity. You start on the water with a helmet, life vest and flyboard boot fitted to your feet, then receive instruction on balance and technique before the engine fires up. The flyboard uses jet propulsion to lift you above the surface, and the view shifts as you rise: the lagoon's different shades of blue spread out below, the reef edge visible, the island's peaks framing the horizon. The sensation is the point: weightless and controlled at once, nothing between you and the water except the thrust beneath your feet.

Once your 30 minutes are done, you climb back onto the boat. Fresh coconut water and local fruit wait for you, and you have time to catch your breath and watch the water settle before the ride back to your hotel or dock. The whole outing (gearing up, flying, cooling down and the return journey) takes about an hour from start to finish.
