A 2-hour jet ski activity on Tahiti's lagoon in Puna'auia, where you ride with an instructor across turquoise water framed by mountains and valleys. One or two people share each jet ski. A safety jacket is provided. The guide speaks English or French and children from age 3 are welcome.

The experience

You and one other person (or solo if you prefer) climb onto a jet ski and follow your instructor across the lagoon. The ride covers two hours of open water: enough time to feel the acceleration and the spray without the fatigue of a full-day excursion. The landscape does the work: turquoise shallows give way to deeper blue, and the volcanic ridges of Tahiti frame the whole thing. Your instructor stays with you the entire time, setting the pace and the route based on conditions and your comfort.

The jet ski itself handles the sensations: the throttle response, the lean into turns, the salt spray. What you bring is the willingness to move fast across water. A safety jacket is strapped on before you leave the beach. The operator runs these trips in English and French, so language is not a barrier. If you're traveling with children, riders from age 3 onward can join (though they'll need to sit with an adult on the same ski).
