The experience
The route starts with pickup from your hotel in Caen, Bayeux, Rouen or a Normandy port, then heads to Caen Memorial: the best World War II museum in France, according to the operator. You'll spend two hours there, watching a 19-minute documentary with original historic footage and learning how the battle unfolded through the eyes of the people who lived it. The drive to Arromanches-les-Bains takes about 30 minutes through countryside and small villages.
Arromanches is a small seaside town built around the remains of the Mulberry Harbour, the artificial port the Allies constructed for D-Day. You'll have time for lunch there, then climb to the Arromanches 360 cinema: a circular screen showing a documentary about the 100 days of the Battle of Normandy and Operation Overlord. From there it's a half-hour drive to Normandy American Cemetery in Colleville-sur-Mer, which overlooks Omaha Beach and holds 9,387 U.S. soldiers, most killed during the landings. The visitor center has a small museum. The site itself includes the memorial colonnade with the sculpture "Spirit of American Youth Rising from the Waves" and the cliffs showing remnants of German defences.
After the cemetery, the itinerary moves quickly through Overlord Museum (a few hundred meters away, with tanks, weapons and personal belongings), then to Omaha Beach itself (the most visited of the D-Day beaches), and finishes at Pointe du Hoc, the cliff battery between Utah and Omaha where the 2nd Ranger Battalion fought to silence German guns. Original bunkers and fortifications remain open to walk through. Return to your hotel by 8 p.m., or later depending on your location.

Is this one for you?Book the Private, Live Guided option if your group is four or more and you want context and stories at each stop. Choose the Private D-Day for two or three people if you prefer to move at your own pace and absorb the sites independently. Either way, the Mercedes car saves roughly two hours compared to a shared bus tour, which matters when you're fitting seven major sites into one day.

What is the Mulberry Harbour and why does it matter?
