The experience
You meet your wine expert guide at the Marseille cruise pier and travel in a comfortable minivan to two wineries selected for their quality. At each stop, you go behind the scenes into the aging rooms and learn how the winemakers work with Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre and Cinsault: the grapes that define the region. Your guide walks you through the soil, the climate, the picking and pruning, then teaches you how to taste like a professional as you sample some of the finest Rosés, powerful reds, and aromatic whites from Provence.
After the second tasting, you have about two hours free to eat lunch and explore one of three towns you choose at booking: the little port of Cassis with its fishing boats and waterfront restaurants, the picturesque hilltop village of Lourmarin, or the elegant city of Aix en Provence with its fountains and markets. Your guide gives restaurant recommendations before you go. You return to the Marseille cruise port by 4 or 4:30pm, with other return times possible if your ship's schedule requires it.

What grape varieties will I taste on this Provence wine tour?
The two wineries focus on Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre and Cinsault, the main varieties of the Provence region. You'll taste Rosés, reds and whites made from these grapes, and your guide will explain how winemakers blend them to create different styles.
How much time do I have to explore the town at the end of the tour?
You get about two hours free time in Cassis, Lourmarin or Aix en Provence to have lunch, walk around and shop. Your guide recommends restaurants before you leave the last winery.
What happens if my cruise ship's departure time doesn't match the standard return time?
The tour is adapted to your docking and departure times after you book. If the standard 4 or 4:30pm return doesn't work, the operator will confirm a different time with you or propose an alternative.
Is this tour suitable for someone visiting Provence for the first time?
Yes. The guide explains the winemaking process, the terroir and how to taste wine in a relaxed, educational way, so no prior knowledge is needed. The free afternoon in one of three different towns lets you see a different side of Provence beyond the wineries.
Can I choose which town to visit, or is it decided for me?
You choose between Cassis, Lourmarin or Aix en Provence when you book. Each offers a different experience: Cassis is a working fishing port, Lourmarin is a quiet hilltop village, and Aix en Provence is a larger city with fountains, markets and galleries.
