The experience
The tour picks you up at the Marseille cruise terminal and moves through the day in a set sequence, though the operator may adjust the order depending on conditions. You'll drive along the Route des Crêtes (the cliff road that runs above the Côte d'Azur), and stop at Cape Canailles for views across the water. The minivan is air-conditioned and holds a small group, so the ride itself becomes part of the pace rather than a transfer between separate sites.
In Cassis, you get free time to walk the village on your own. A sightseeing cruise to the Calanques fjords is available there but costs extra and is not included. Back in Marseille, the guide takes you on a panoramic tour that passes Saint-Victor's Abbey and the Corniche Road before stopping at Notre-Dame de la Garde, the basilica that overlooks the Vieux Port. You'll have a photo stop there, then return to the port in time for your ship's departure. The whole outing runs seven hours from pickup to drop-off.
The tour operates only for cruise passengers (you'll need to provide your ship's name when you book), and the guide speaks English and French. Weather can close the Crêtes road or cancel the Calanques cruise without refund, and if your ship departs at 4pm or earlier, the supplier will email you about timing changes before the tour date.
