The experience

Four hours gets you out of Avignon and into the countryside at Le Mas En Provence, a working farm surrounded by lavender fields and aromatic plants. A minivan picks you up in the city and drives you there. The guide meets you at the farm and walks you through how the farmers grow and distill lavender, along with other Provençal herbs they cultivate. This is not a lecture: the farmers themselves introduce you to what they do, and you see the plants and the setup where it happens.

The hands-on part is the workshop: you make your own natural product using lavender and other materials from the farm, and you take it home. The guide is there to show you how, but the thing you walk away with is something you made, not something you bought. After the workshop, the minivan brings you back to Avignon, which leaves the rest of your afternoon free.
