Step-by-step itinerary

Champagne region tour and tastings

  • Meet at Reims Cathedral
  • Drive along Champagne vineyards
  • Visit first winery and taste Champagne
  • Lunch in Hautvillers village
  • Visit Hautvillers village and church
  • Visit second winery and taste Champagne
  • Walk or drive along Avenue de Champagne
  • End tour at Moët & Chandon boutique

The experience

The day starts at 9:30am in front of Reims Cathedral, where kings were crowned, then moves into the vineyard landscape along the Champagne tourist route. Your guide is a wine professional or certified sommelier with over 10 years of experience in wine tours. Someone who knows which producers to take you to and why. The two wineries you visit change daily, so you might find yourself at a prestigious Champagne House or a premium boutique establishment, each one selected by the tour's Head Sommelier, who writes for Champagne guide books and has access to exceptional producers most travelers never reach.

Lunch happens in Hautvillers, the birthplace of Champagne and the village where Dom Perignon lived. The tour books a table for you at a local restaurant with good Champagne selection and reasonable pricing (around €35 per person), and the restaurant adapts to dietary restrictions. After lunch you'll visit the church and monastery grounds where Dom Perignon worked, a UNESCO village that moves at your pace, not a rushed checkpoint. The route then takes you to your second winery for more tastings, and by the end of the day you'll have tasted at least 6 different Cuvées chosen to show the range and character of the region.

The tour finishes around 5pm on Avenue de Champagne in Epernay, the UNESCO street lined with the headquarters of Moët & Chandon, Perrier-Jouet and other prestigious houses. From there you can explore the Champagne bars on your own, or catch a regional train back to Reims (every 30 minutes on weekdays, €3 per person) or Paris (every hour). If you book the private option, the van returns you to your hotel in Reims or Epernay.

Top questions

Can children come?

Yes. Ticket types: Child (under 18).

Can I book this tour departing from Paris instead of Reims?

Yes. On some days the tour departs from Paris at 7:45am, though seats are limited and you need to contact the operator as soon as possible to confirm availability. If you prefer to start from Reims, you can take the 8:28am train from Paris and meet the guide at Reims train station at 9:15am. Just let them know the day before so they can arrange the pickup.

What exactly do I taste during the day?

You'll taste at least 6 different premium Champagnes across the two winery visits. The specific Cuvées change daily because the wineries visited rotate, so each tour offers a different selection. The tastings are curated by the tour's Head Sommelier, who selects producers and pairings based on what each estate offers.

Is lunch included in the price?

Lunch is not included, but the tour books a table for you at a local French restaurant in Hautvillers with good Champagne options and a budget of around €35 per person. The restaurant adapts to all dietary restrictions, and the booking is arranged based on the day's logistics and which wineries are visited.

What happens if I book the private option instead of the small group tour?

The private option includes hotel pickup and drop-off in Reims or Epernay, and you can request a guide who speaks Portuguese, Italian, Spanish or French instead of English. The itinerary and experiences remain the same. The difference is the van is reserved for your group alone and the guide returns you to your hotel at the end.

Can I visit more Champagne bars after the tour ends?

Yes. The tour finishes at 5pm on Avenue de Champagne in Epernay, right in front of the Moët & Chandon boutique, so you have the rest of the afternoon and evening to explore the prestigious houses and bars on the street. The train station is just 150 meters away if you need to return to Reims or Paris.
